Kevin Johnson enters his seventh season as head athletic trainer of the Philadelphia 76ers after serving as the top athletic trainer for the Washington Bullets/Wizards for seven seasons.The Indianapolis native received his first taste of professional basketball as assistant athletic trainer from 1990-94 with the Indiana Pacers, under the tutelage of longtime head athletic trainer David Craig. His athletic healthcare experience extended to professional football as well, having worked as a summer assistant trainer with the National Football League’s Indianapolis Colts in 1990.Johnson was honored to serve as Eastern Conference athletic trainer at the 2001 NBA All-Star Game in Washington, D.C.

He received a bachelor’s degree in physical education with an athletic training specialization from Indiana State University in 1989. At ISU, Johnson served as a student athletic trainer for the Sycamores’ football, baseball and men’s and women’s basketball teams. While earning his undergraduate degree, he gained clinical experience as an athletic training intern at Indianapolis Physical Therapy and Sports Medicine in 1988.

A member of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association and the Maryland Athletic Trainers Association, Johnson received the Distinguished Alumni Award from ISU in 1996.

In addition to serving as chairman of the Indiana Athletic Trainers Association’s public relations committee from 1991-92, he was president of the Phi Beta Sigma fraternity from 1987-89 and earned the rank of Eagle Scout in Boy Scout Troop 174 in Indianapolis.

In his spare time, Kevin enjoys bass fishing, water skiing and billiards. He has also volunteered his time to Big Brothers of America. Kevin his wife Sheila and their son Mitchell and daughter Jai reside in Bowie, Md.
