In 1997, he leveraged his own funds to establish the Jasen Powell Health Promotion Scholarship in the Oakland Unified School District, which supports college-bound students in pursuit of a career in athletic healthcare.
The current secretary of the NBATA, Powell is a member of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association and the National Strength and Conditioning Association.
The Oakland, Calif., native attended Bishop O’Dowd High School, where he was an All-California selection in basketball and played against current NBA stars Jason Kidd and Lamond Murray.
His hobbies include reading and movies. Jasen and his wife Mia reside in Pasadena with their son Aaron.

Joe Resendez enters his fourth overall season with the Clippers and first as Travel Manager. Prior to coming to Los Angeles, Resendez spent four seasons as the Athletic Trainer/Strength & Conditioning Coach for the Houston Rockets’ Rio Grande Valley Vipers of the NBA Development League. He came to the Vipers for their inaugural season after a two-year stint as the men’s basketball athletic trainer at Louisiana Tech, where he earned his Master of Science in Exercise Physiology in 2006.
After earning his Bachelor of Science in kinesiology with an emphasis in sports medicine from the University of Texas-Pan American in 2003, he went on to spend one season as the Assistant Athletic Trainer at the University of Texas-San Antonio.
Since the summer of 2010 he has also served as physiotherapist for the Future’s Program of United Kingdom basketball. Resendez is a certified athletic trainer through the National Athletic Trainers Association (NATA) and as a performance enhancement specialist through the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM).
Resendez and his wife Anna reside in Playa Vista, CA.
