Scott McCullough

Scott McCullough was named Head Athletic Trainer of the Raptors in July 2006 after serving as the Head Athletic Trainer for the Vancouver/Memphis Grizzlies for six years. In addition to his professional basketball experience, McCullough performed therapy placements at the University of Ottawa and Mount Sinai Hospital in Toronto in 1995, as well as the Edmonton (Alberta) Sports Institute in 1994.

McCullough was a student athletic therapist at the University of Toronto (UT) in 1993 working primarily with the hockey and football teams. His tenure in Toronto was highlighted by a national football championship with the UT Blues and serving as athletic therapist for the 1993 Canadian National Figure Skating Championships.

The Renfrew, Ontario, native received a bachelor’s degree in physical education from the University of Toronto in 1992, graduated from the Sheridan College (Oakville, Ont.) Sports Injuries Management program in 1995 and received his Masters of Science from AT Still University in 2013. He is a certified member of the Canadian Athletic Therapists Association and is a member of the National Strength and Conditioning Association. Scott has served as the Eastern Conference Head Athletic Trainer for the All-Star Game in 2011 in Los Angeles and again in 2016 in Toronto.

Scott and his wife, Lisa, live in Oakville Ontario. They enjoy cooking and wine collecting.

Gio Sardella

Giovanni (Gio) Sardella studied at York University where he completed his BSc with Honours in Kinesiology as well as the Athletic Therapy Certificate Program in 2012. While attending York University, Gio had the opportunity to work with many teams as a student athletic therapist. Gio has worked with York’s Varsity Track and Field team, York’s Varsity Football team, and Humber College’s Varsity Men’s Basketball and Men’s Rugby teams, winning the OCAA Men’s Rugby Championship in 2011.

The skills and knowledge Gio has gained from the athletic therapist program at York University allowed him to work in a variety of different settings. Outside of York University, Giovanni has had the opportunity to work as an athletic therapist for Team Canada’s U-15 Boys’ Soccer team, the TFC Academy and the CFL Toronto Argonauts, winning the 100th Grey Cup in 2012.

The Toronto, Ontario native was named Assistant Athletic Trainer of the Toronto Raptors on July 2017 after serving as the head athletic trainer for the Raptors 905 for two years (2015-2017). His tenure with the 905 was highlighted by a D-League Championship in 2017. In 2019, Gio became an NBA Champion, winning the Larry O’Brien Trophy with the Toronto Raptors.

These invaluable experiences of winning 3 different titles with three different teams/organizations have allowed Gio the opportunity to refine his skills and have given him the knowledge and insight in order to be a versatile and well-rounded therapist. He is a certified Kinesiologist, certified member of the Canadian Athletic Therapists Association and is a member of the National Strength and Conditioning Association as a certified strength and conditioning specialist. Giovanni has served as the D-League Trainers Association Vice President and D-League Eastern Conference Head Athletic Trainer for the D-league All-Star Game in 2017 in New-Orleans.

Giovanni continues to seek out new opportunities to apply his knowledge, skills and enthusiasm to assist athletes to perform at their very best.
