Dr. Bill Moutzouros Named the 2025-26 NBATA Team Physician of the Year

ATLANTA, GA —The National Basketball Athletic Trainers Association (NBATA) has named Detroit Pistons Team Physician Dr. Bill Moutzouros the 2025-26 NBA Physician of the Year. The NBATA Physician of the Year award is an annual honor voted on by the members of the NBATA, designed to recognize a physician for exceptional service and care provided to athletes, commitment to service in the community and dedication to NBATA initiatives and charities.

“Dr. Moutzouros consistently demonstrates the professionalism, collaboration and athlete-centered care that this award represents,” said Sebastien Poirier, Senior Medical Director and Head Athletic Trainer for the Detroit Pistons. “His commitment to supporting both the organization and visiting NBA athletes throughout the season has made a lasting impact across the league.”

Born and raised in Chicago, Illinois, Moutzouros attended Loyola University, where he graduated magna cum laude in three years with a degree in biology. He went on to attend Loyola-Stritch School of Medicine, graduating with honors and Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) recognition. Moutzouros completed his orthopedic training in Boston through the Tufts/New England Baptist Hospital Program before continuing his education through the prestigious Cleveland Clinic Sports Medicine Fellowship, where he provided coverage for the Cleveland Cavaliers, Cleveland Indians and Cleveland Browns.

Since joining Henry Ford Health in 2007, Moutzouros has become a nationally respected leader in sports medicine and currently serves as Chief of Sports Medicine. In addition to his role with the Pistons, he serves as an official team physician for Wayne State University, Oakland University and Detroit Country Day. Known for his approachable nature and commitment to going the extra mile, Moutzouros has earned widespread respect throughout the sports medicine community.

The award will be formally presented to Moutzouros during the upcoming NBA season.
